MT. OLIVE, N.C., POINT GUARD BECOMES FIRST RECRUIT FOR FURMAN BASKETBALL IN '97-98

GREENVILLE -- Furman University head basketball coach Larry Davis today announced the signing of Paul Foster, a 6-foot-1 point guard from Mt. Olive, N.C., to a national letter of intent.

Foster, who in signing with Furman becomes the Paladins' first recruit for the 1997-98 season, averaged 12.0 points and 9.0 assists per game as a junior at Southern Wayne High School in Dudley, N.C. He is attending nearby Wallace Rose High School in Teachey, N.C, this year.

"Paul Foster is an outstanding high school guard and leader who has the ability to break opponents down defensively and create on the offensive end," said head coach Larry Davis on Thursday. "I'm confident he can contribute immediately."

This past summer Foster helped his AAU squad capture the North Carolina championship and finish third nationally. As a junior at Southern Wayne High School, he earned 4-A Mideastern Conference all-league honors.
