GREENVILLE - Furman University head basketball coach Larry Davis announced today that Ryan Odom has been named to the position of restricted earnings assistant coach on the Paladins' staff.
"I'm excited that Ryan Odom is joining our staff," Davis said Tuesday morning. "He has been around big-time college basketball his entire life and has learned a great deal from his father (head coach Dave Odom) at Wake Forest and Seth Greenberg at South Florida. In Ryan, I believe we have one of the finest young coaches in the country, and we're fortunate to have him join our staff."
Odom, 22, spent the last year as an administrative assistant coach at the University of South Florida, where he assisted the Bulls' program in all areas.
A 1996 graduate of Hampden-Sydney College with a degree in economics, Odom started at guard for four years and served as team captain his senior year. During his tenure at Hampden-Sydney, the Tigers posted an 80-30 record and twice advanced to the NCAA Division III national tournament. Named team MVP in 1995 after leading his squad to an Old Dominion Athletic Conference title, Odom finished his career as Hampden-Sydney's leading 3-point shooter and fourth in assists.
Odom's selection as restricted earnings coach is the first of three
assistant coaches' positions to be filled by Larry Davis, who on April
9 was named head coach of Furman's basketball program.
