UNCG DEFEATS FURMAN 4-2

Greensboro, N.C.--Despite only four hits on the afternoon, the UNC Greensboro baseball team won its fifth straight game, defeating Furman, 4-2 in Southern Conference action Saturday afternoon at the UNCG Baseball Stadium.

UNCG improves to 19-4 overall, 6-2 in the Southern Conference, while Furman falls to 7-15, 1-4 in league play.

Jay Metzger (3-1) had his longest outing of the year, tossing six innings, allowing one earned run. Jarrett Santos held the Paladins scoreless in the final two innings, earning his first save of the year. David Mitchell (1-3) suffered the loss for the Paladins.

With the scored tied 1-1 in the fourth, the Spartans posted three runs to open up a 4-1 lead. With two outs, Chris Mason singled in Danny Valencia and Jay Maule. The next hitter, Robbie Redic tripled in Mason from second.

Furman’s A.J. Davidiuk went 4-for-4 with an RBI to lead the Paladins at the plate. Redic had two hits for the Spartans.

The final game of the three-game series is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. and can be heard on WCSZ 1070 am as well as through teamline.
