FURMAN DEFEATS CHARLOTTE 4-1
CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte 49ers baseball team dropped a non-conference
game to Furman, 4-1, at Tom and Lib Phillips Field.
Jamie Rusco and Chris Lane each collected two hits for Charlotte.
Sam McLain paced Furman (13-22) with two hits including a home run. He also
scored two runs with two RBI.
Furman plated the game's first two runs on McLain's two-run blast over the
center field wall in the fourth inning.
Charlotte scored their only run when Michael Roane connected on a solo home
run over the left center field wall in the seventh inning.
Then, the Paladins increased their lead to 4-1 with two runs on three hits
in the eighth inning. Matthew Betsill and McLain scored on Matt Madison's triple
to right field.
Furman's Matt Klinker recorded his second win of the season after allowing
zero runs on three hits over three innings. Calvin Hurst recorded his ninth
save of the season by pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
The Paladins return to Southern Conference action this weekend when they travel
to Boone, N.C. to face Appalachian State. The three-game series begins on Saturday
with a doubleheader at 12:00 p.m. and concludes on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The 49ers
host Conference USA foe UAB in a three-game series this weekend, April 23-25.
The first game of the series is Friday, April 23 at 6 p.m.
