COWBOYS LASSO PALADINS 10-0 ON SECOND DAY OF SOUTHWEST DIAMOND CLASSIC

Fort Worth, TEXAS—Oklahoma State starting pitcher Spencer Grogan pitched eight innings of shutout baseball to lead the Cowboys to an 10-0 win over Furman in day two of the Southwest Diamond Classic.

Grogan allowed eight hits while striking out five and walking one to improve to 2-0 on the year. Freshman Brent Weaver completed the shutout with an inning of one-hit relief.

Leadoff batter Rod Allen opened the game with a homer for the Cowboys (3-3) and added a RBI single in his second at bat to put the team up 2-0.

Freshman first baseman Ty Wright added a RBI single in the third to extend the lead to 3-0. Wright finished the day 4-for-6 with two RBIs and a run scored.

OSU broke the game open with a four-run fifth, highlighted by a RBI single by Wright and a two-run single by leftfielder Scott Kirby.

Third baseman Josh Fields, who went 4-for-6 at the plate, added a two-run homer in the eighth as the Pokes scored three more runs in the stanza to extend the lead to 10-0.

Allen, centerfielder Keanon Simon and shortstop Chris Gutierrez each had two hits on the day to help lead the offensive surge.

Furman shortstop A.J. Davidiuk led the Paladins (1-3) with two hits, while starting pitcher David Mitchell dropped to 0-1 on the year.

The Paladins finish out the Southwest Diamond Classic tomorrow when they face TCU at 1:00 p.m. Oklahoma State will close out the tournament tomorrow at 4 p.m. against host Dallas Baptist.
