WOFFORD STOPS FURMAN, 10-1

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- David Dufour homered twice and drove in five runs to lead Wofford past Furman 10-1 in Southern Conference baseball action Friday night at Furman Stadium.

Dufour, a senior designated hitter/outfielder from Morrow, Ohio, belted a two-run home in the second inning and came back with a three-run blast in a five-run fifth inning to blow the game open for the Terriers.

Wofford starting pitcher Jarrod Rampey (4-4) scattered nine hits and pitched into the ninth inning to earn the victory, only the third in the last 18 games for the Terriers (11-18, 4-12 SoCon) and first in Greenville since 1994.

Furman (11-21, 4-9 SoCon) stranded 11 runners in the contest and fell for the sixth time in its last seven games.

Dufour and Tony Carobone paced Wofford’s 10-hit attack with two hits each, and Scott Holloway delivered a two-home run for the Terriers.

Furman starting pitcher Kyle Funk (1-5) took the loss after yielding five earned runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings of work.

Wofford broke on two with two runs in the second on Dufour’s towering home run to right center field.

The Terriers made it 4-0 in the fourth on Holloway’s two-run clout over the left field fence.

Furman scored its only run in the bottom of the fram when Matthew Betsill cracked a solo home run down the right field line off Rampey, but Wofford answered with five runs on five hits in the fifth, highlighted by Dufour’s second home run of the contest, a three-run blast to left field.

Wofford added its final run on sacrifice fly by David Long in the ninth that plated Tony Carbone.

The Paladins and Terriers play game two of the three-game series Saturay night at Furman Stadium beginning at 6:00 p.m.
