STALLSMITH NAMED TO VERIZON ACADEMIC
ALL-AMERICA BASEBALL DISTRICT III TEAM

Greenville, S.C.--Senior Jon Stallsmith was named to theVerizon Academic All-America Baseaball All-District III First Team, as was announced today.

The Fox Point, Wis. native carries a 3.93 GPA as a Spanish and History major. On the field, the righthanded pitcher has been solid as a starter with a 3-4 record and a 3.39 ERA, which is the eleventh lowest ERA in the conference. He has struck-out 51 batters while only walking 16 in 69 innings of work.

Stallsmith has excelled in the classroom over his four years at Furman. He has been named to the Southern Confrerence All-Academic Honor Roll for three straight years and has been awarded the J. Furman Bisher Academic/Athletic and the Mickel Presidential Scholarship. In the fall, Stallsmith was also a 2002 Rhodes Scholar nominee.

Outside the classroom, Stallsmith has been a stand-out as well, setting up a bilingual tutoring program at Greenville’s Parker Academy and writing Mezoamerica, a Latin American magizine, last summer.

Stallsmith will now represent District III on the national ballot.
