FURMAN'S MASTNY NAMED SOUTHERN
CONFERENCE PITCHER-OF-THE-WEEK

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman senior pitcher Tom Mastny has been named Southern Conference Pitcher-of-the-Week for his performance in the Paladins' 8-0 win over East Tennessee State on Saturday.

Mastny, a 6-foot-5 righthander from Zionsville, Indiana, pitched a complete game, three-hitter with a career high 12 strikeouts in the win over the Buccaneers. He no-hit ETSU until the sixth inning and allowed two singles in the ninth on the way to his seventh complete game of the season.

Now 10-2 on the year, Mastny ranks second in NCAA Division I with a 1.17 earned run average. He has posted an 8-0 record in 10 starts versus conference opposition in 2003 and hasn't allowed an earned run in his last 19 1/3 innings of work. He has surrendered only 73 hits and recorded 96 strikeouts in a league high 115 innings. Opponents are batting only .179 against him.

The player-of-the-week honor is Masnty's second scroll of the season.

Currently 28-21 on the season and 17-13 in conference play, Furman takes a four-game winning streak into tonight's game versus Clemson, which the Paladins defeated 10-8 last Thursday at Furman Stadium.
