CHARLESTON SOUTHERN BLANKS FURMAN 3-0;
PALADINS SIX-GAME WINNING STREAK SNAPPED

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Jordan Haar hit a two-run home run and drove in three runs and Robert Parnell pitched four innings of one-hit relief to lead Charleston Southern to a 3-0 win over Furman in baseball action Friday night at Furman Stadium.

The win by Charleston Southern (19-34) snapped a six-game winning streak by Furman (30-22), which will entertain the Buccaneers in the regular finale for both teams on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

Charleston Southern grabbed the lead with two runs in the third inning off Furman starter Jon Stallsmith (4-5). William Dalton singled with one out and was driven home on a Haar home run to left centerfield.

The Buccaneers made it 3-0 in the fifth inning when Dalton led off with a single, stole second, and advanced to third on a throwing errror. Haar followed with an RBI groundout.

Charleston Southern starting pitcher Robert Swindle (10-4) kept Furman’s bats in check in five innings of work, surrendering only three hits before giving way to Parnell.

After an error allowed Paladin leadoff hitter Andrew Greene to reach second in the sixth, Parnell responded by retiring Brandon Barrett on a groundout, Derek Norman on a fly to center field, and Dominic Frankey on a strikeout to end the inning.

Charleston Southern loaded the bases in the eighth inning off Paladin reliever Patrick Griffin, but Case Cassedy came in to quell the threat by striking out Michael Blankenship and Andrew Grosse.

Parnell allowed only a one-out ninth inning double to Frankey, but rallied to retire Sam McClain on a groundout and Betsill on a strikeout to end the game.

The Buccaneers collected seven hits off Paladin pitching, including two hits each by Blankenship and Dalton. Betsill and Frankey accounted for all four Furman hits with each going 2-for-4.
