MASTNY NAMED SOUTHERN CONFERENCE PITCHER-OF-THE-WEEK

Spartanburg, S.C. — The Southern Conference today named senior right-handed pitcher Tom Mastny as the Pitcher-of-the-Week.

Mastny, a Zionsville, Ind. native, picked up a win and a save in two appearances last week for Furman. On March 25, he threw two innings of scoreless relief to earn a win over nationally-ranked South Carolina. Mastny then earned a win over Western Carolina by throwing a complete game six-hitter inwhich he did not allow an earned run while walking one and striking out six.

This is the second Pitcher-of-the-Week for Furman during the 2003 season. Earlier this season, sophomore Patrick Griffin was awarded the honor for his performance against High Point and Niagara.

Furman returns to action on Wednesday when the Paladins travel to High Point to face the Panthers in a 3:00 p.m. game.
