CHICAGO CUBS TRADE FORMER FURMAN STANDOUT
DAVID NOYCE TO ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Former Furman Paladin pitching standout David Noyce has been traded by the Chicago Cubs to the Arizona Diamondbacks as part of a three-player deal between the two clubs, it has been announced.

Noyce, a Marietta, Ga., product who starred with Furman from 1996-98, was dealt along with outfielder Gary Johnson to Arizona in exchange for Diamondbacks catcher Damian Miller.

Noyce appeared in 53 games with the Cubs' AA West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx last year and went 3-2 with a 2.72 ERA. Opponents batted only .239 against him.

The 6-foot-5, 25-year-old lefthander was selected by the Florida Marlins in the 12th round of the 1998 Draft. In July 2000 he was traded along with another minor leaguer to the Cubs in exchange for first baseman Henry Rodriquez.

In three seasons at Furman, Noyce posted an 11-11 record and 3.90 ERA.
