COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON ROUTS FURMAN 10-1

Mt. Pleasant, S.C. – Reid Price pitched a complete-game six-hitter and Lee Curtis and Adam Tolman added three hits each pacing the College of Charleston to a 10-1 win over Furman in Southern Conference college baseball action before 447 at Patriots Point Field Saturday night.

With the win, the Cougars improved to 23-16 overall and 11-6 in league play and snap a five-game winning streak for Furman. The Paladins fall to 20-15 and 10-10.

Price (4-2) pitched his first complete game of the season allowing only an unearned run in the first inning while tossing 101 pitches. The lefty walked none and struck out seven. Kyle Funk (4-2) was the starter and loser for the Paladins allowing seven runs on nine hits in 2 2/3 innings of work.

Charleston erupted for nine runs, seven with two outs, with the game tied 1-1 entering the bottom of the third inning. Charleston parlayed eight hits, an error and a pair of walks in the inning to take a 10-1 lead.

Stanley Nix had a sacrifice fly and a run-scoring double, while Curtis added a two-run single and Mark Lyons a two-run double.

Charleston, which had 15 hits in the game, also got two hits each from Lyons and Phillip Coker.

Dominic Frankey and Cole Hubka led Furman with three and two hits each, respectively.

The final game of the series is Sunday at 1:00.
