FURMAN BASEBALL TO OPEN SEASON SATURDAY AGAINST HIGH POINT

Greenville, S.C.-- The Furman baseball teams opens the 2002 season Saturday against High Point at Furman Baseball Stadium. The doubleheader is slated to start at noon.

The Paladins, coming off a 30-25 record last year and a third place finish in the Southern Conference, will look to replace five seniors lost to graduation, including staff ace Toby David.

In game one of the doubleheader, junior Tom Mastny (8-5, 4.35 ERA) will take the mound for Furman, followed by senior Corey Etheridge (4-4, 3.62 ERA) in the second game.

The Paladins will conclude the three-game series with High Point on Sunday in a 1:00 p.m. contest.

Furman will open the 2002 conference season on March 9th when Appalachian State travels to Greenville.
