HIGH POINT ROUTS FURMAN 9-1 IN SUNDAY BASEBALL ACTION

Greenville. S.C. -- Furman dropped the third game of the series against High Point, 9-1, Sunday afternoon at Furman Baseball Stadium.

With the win High Point moves to 2-1, Furman falls to 1-2 on the year.

Furman got on the board fist after a Nick Wajda single to left field scoring Derek Norman. High Point came right back in the top of the fifth when Danny Rueckel (0-1) gave up a single to Matt O'Neil, allowilng Dan Jones and Jayson Hoffnam to score.

High Point broke the game open in the top of the seventh when the Panthers scored five runs off Paladin relievers. Seniors Andy Harney and John Cavanaugh both had two run singles to help High Point to an 8-1 lead.

For HIgh Point, Kevin Burch (1-0) went 7 2/3 innings, scattering five hits and allowing only one run to pick up the win.

High Point returns to the field on Wednesday to face North Carolina A&T. Furman returns to action next weekend with a three game series against Cincinnati. The first game of the series is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Friday.
