G-BRAVES DOWN PALADINS 8-2 IN EXHIBITION CONTEST

Greenville, S.C. -- Nathan Kent pitched five perfect innings to lead Greenville to an 8-2 exhibition win over Furman University Tuesday night at Municipal Stadium.

The Braves scored a run in the first inning off Furman's Corey Etheridge (L, 0-1), who worked the first two innings.  Rusty McNamara opened the frame with a double and scored on a ground out by Luis Taveras.

Furman made the game interesting in seventh inning, scoring twice to cut the Braves lead to 3-2.  Two Greenville errors combined with a Brandon Barrett RBI single made it a one run game.  However, with two runners on and one out, reliever Garrett Lee coaxed a double play ball out of Ryan Presnell to end the threat.

Greenville then blew the game open in the seventh inning, scoring five times.  A Chris Hass two-run double highlighted the frame.

Five G-Braves relievers combined to allow just two runs over five innings.  Jamie Emiliano, a free agent signee and former Carolina Mudcat was most impressive, striking out the side in order in the eighth inning.

Furman next travels to Lexington, Va to take on VMI in a three-game Southern Conference series. The Paladins open the series with a doubleheader on Saturday, which is slated to begin at 12:00 p.m.
