DELAWARE SLIPS BY FURMAN 3-1

Conway, S.C.-- Delaware starter Rich McGuire scattered seven hits and one run over seven innings of work to pick up a 3-1 win in Friday afternoon baseball action at Watson Stadium in Conway, South Carolina.

With the win, the Blue Hens improve to 1-6 on the season, while the Paladins fall to 4-8.

Delaware struck first in the third inning when designated hitter Doug Eiteleman tripled to right field to drive in Casey Fahy amd Reid Gorecki. The Blue Hens extended their lead to 3-0 in the fifth inning as Steve Van Note doubled to plate Gorecki.

Furman's Ryan Presnell singled in the seventh inning off McGuire (1-2), scoring Drew Latora to cut the Blue Hen lead to 3-1. However, reliever Jason Rogers held the Paladins scoreless over the final two innings to earn his first save of the year.

Paladin starter Danny Rueckel (1-2) pitched a complete game in the lost, allowing seven hits and three runs, while striking out eleven.

Furman takes the weekend off before returning to the field on Tuesday to face Michigan State at Furman Baseball Staduim. The first pitch is slated for 4:00 p.m
