FURMAN RALLIES PAST CINCINNATI 7-6

Greenville, S.C.-- Furman's Danny Rueckel went 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored to lead the Paladins in a 7-6 victory over Cincinnati in baseball action Friday afternoon at Furman Baseball Stadium.

With the win, Furman moves to 2-2 on the year, while Cincinnati drops to 0-1.

An Aaron Moll single in the second inning allowed Nate Fish to cross the plate to start the scoring for Cincinnati. The Bearcats added two more runs when Erik Eitel singled to right field off Paladin starter Tom Mastny, driving in Jake Smith and Brad Dormann.

Furman came back in the fourth with four runs off four hits and two Cincinnati errors. Craig Caudill led off the inning with a double down the right field line and later scored on a Dominic Frankey groundout. Danny Rueckel followed with a single off pitcher B.J. Borsa scoring, Derek Norman, who had reached earlier on a single. The Paladins extended their lead to 5-3 in the sixth, after Cole Hubka singled to center field scoring Rueckel.

In the seventh, the Bearcats jumped on Paladin reliever Jon Stallsmith, who gave up two hits and three runs. Brad Schutz, Brett Clark and Nate Fish drove in one run each to give Cincinnati a 6-5 lead

Furman took the lead back for good when Bearcat reliever Rob Reel (0-1) gave up a single to Clint Hill, which drove in Richie Dean.

Furman's Jeff Stovall (1-0) pitched two innings in relief to pick up the win. Rob Purvis picked up his second save of the year by pitching the final frame

Furman and Cincinnati square off again on Saturday in game two of a three game series. The first pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
