OHIO ROUTS FURMAN 18-0 IN COLLEGE BASEBALL

GREENVILLE -- Adam Foust went 2-for-3 with two home runs and five RBI to lead Ohio to an 18-0 rout of host Furman in baseball action Saturday afternoon at Furman Stadium.

The Bobcats roughed up Paladins pitchers for 20 hits and belted four home runs en route to claiming the rubber game in the three-game weekend series. The two teams split Friday's doubleheader.The loss was Furman's worst since Auburn defeated the Paladins 22-4 last year.

Ohio jumped on top 2-0 in the first inning behind a two-run home run by Dan Lunsford off Furman starter Toby David (3-1).

The Bobcats made it 4-0 in the second inning when Adam Fox took David deep with another two-run homer, and Ohio stretched its lead to 7-0 with a three-run third, highlighted by Foust's two-run home to center field.

Two innings later Foust struck again, this time with a three-run blast down the right field line that gave the Bobcats a 10-0 lead and chased David, who yielded eight hits, including four home runs, and 10 runs in 5.0 innings of work.

Ohio starting Denny McGee (2-0), meanwhile, throttled Furman with at the plate, limiting the Paladins to no runs and only four hits in 6.0 innings.

The Bobcats blew the game open with an eight-run seventh, touching Paladin relievers Jon Stallsmith and Kyle Funk for nine hits -- all singles -- to make it 18-0.

Contributing to Ohio's torrid hitting were Andrew See (4-for-6, 4 runs scored, 2 RBI), Ryan Kyes (3-for-6), designated hitter Greg Meyer (3-for-3, 2 RBI), and Adam Fox (1-for-3, 2 runs scored, 3 RBI).

Furman drops to 11-6 with the loss, and Ohio improves to 3-2 on the season.

Furman returns to action on Wednesday against nationally ranked South Carolina in Columbia. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
