CATCHER JUSTIN MADERER NAMED SOUTHERN
CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

GREENVILLE-- -- Furman catcher Justin Maderer has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for games played from April 30 through May 6.

This marks back-to-back player of the week nods for Furman. Last week Tom Mastny was named Conference Pitcher of the week when he help lead Furman to a 2-1 victory over The Citadel.

Maderer, a senior catcher from Windermere, Fla., hit .600 last week in helping the Paladins win four of five games including a three-game sweep of Southern Conference foe Wofford.  Maderer was 12 for 20 at the plate with three doubles, a triple, and two home runs along with 11 RBIs. He had at least two hits in each game last week and had two or more RBIs in four of the five contests. Maderer was 6 for 12 against Wofford and had seven RBIs in the final two games of the series. Furman wraps up the regular season with two non-conference games this week.

The Paladins travel to High Point tomorrow to face the Pathners in a 3:00 p.m. start and then return home Wednesday to play nationally ranked Clemson at 7:00.
