FURMAN TOPS INDIANA 24-10 IN SUSPENDED GAME,
DROPS SATURDAY CONTEST 19-12

GREENVILLE -- Dominic Frankey went 4-for-6 with seven RBI to lead Furman to a 24-10 win over Indiana Saturday afternoon in a game suspended after seven innings Friday due to darkness.

In Saturdayıs regularly scheduled game between the Paladins and Hoosiers, Blake St. Clair belted two home runs and went 5-for-6 with seven RBI to pace Indiana to a 19-12 win. With the split, Furmanıs record moves to 6-2 on the year while Indiana is 1-1.

In Fridayıs suspended game, Frankey singled in a pair of runs and teammate Cole Hubka doubled home two more to ignite a five-run first off Hoosier starter Brad Edwards (0-1), who surrendered eight runs and seven walks in 3 2/3 innings of work.

The Paladins blew the game open in the fourth, combining four hits with three walks to score six runs to grab an 11-0 lead behind pitcher Tom Mastny (1-0).Furman later added eight runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by a three-run home run by Danny Rueckel and solo blast by Justin Maderer off Hoosier reliever Quinn Moore.

Furman, which pounded out 17 hits in the win, got six RBI from Hubka. Paladin junior Ryan Presnell, meanwhile, scored four runs after walking a school single game record five times. Indiana pitchers combined for 12 bases on balls in the contest.

In Saturdayıs game, Furman grabbed a 4-0 lead in the first, but Indiana rallied to take a 5-4 advantage in the second inning on the strength of a three-run double by St. Clair off Paladin starter Corey Etheridge (1-1).

After Furman tied it a 5-5 in the bottom of the second, the Hoosiers used three hits, two walks, and an error after two outs to plate three runs in the third and take an 8-5 lead.

The Hoosiers tacked on three more runs in the fourth, then added single runs in the fifth and a solo home run by St. Clair in the sixth off Paladin reliever Jeff Stovall to make it a 13-7 game.

After the Paladins sliced the Indiana margin to 13-10 with three runs in the bottom of the eighth, the Hoosiers answered with a six-run ninth, highlighted by St. Clairıs second home run of the game, a three-run blast to center.

Indiana finished the game with 20 hits.

Furman and Indiana complete the three-game weekend series with a single game Sunday beginning at noon at Furman Stadium.
