Paladins Five-Hit Panthers in 9-1 Victory
Atlanta, GA The Furman pitching staff combined to five-hit the Georgia State Panthers en route to a 9-1 victory at Panthersville Tuesday night.
The Paladins (8-2) scored all they would need in the third with a two run double by Clint Hill. Two batters later Chris Valdes homered down the left field line to give the Paladins a 4-0 advantage. Dominic Frankey later drove in a run with a grounder to second.
The Panthers (3-3) had a chance in the fifth with back to back singles to right by Josh Vandiver and Kyle Breitbach, but Ryan Apple's hard line drive to second allowed the Paladins to turn a double play and get out of trouble.
Furman tacked on a run in the seventh and three more in the eighth for the 9-0 lead.Georgia State finally got on the board in the bottom of the ninth, when sophomore Kyle Breitbach plated Mic Knox with a double to left center.
Jon Stallsmith worked five innings, allowing just two hits to improve to 2-0 on the season, while Ronnie Robinson fell to 0-1 for State.
Furman will begin conference action next Sunday, February 25 at Davidson.
