FURMAN OPENS SERIES WITH 9-1 WIN
OVER COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON

CHARLESTON, S.C.--. Ryan Presnell and Derek Norman homered and pitcher Tom Mastny pitched eight strong inning with 10 strikeouts leading Furman to a 9-1 win over the College of Charleston in Southern Conference baseball action Friday night.

Norman's two-run homer in the first staked the Paladins (19-14, 9-6) to a 2-0 lead and Presnell's solo shot to shot to center in the ninth capped the scoring.

Clint Hill had a pair of doubles, while Adam Etherington drove in two runs for the Paladins. Hank Stepleton and Nick Orlandos had two hits each to pace Charleston (16-17, 6-9).

Mastny (5-3) got the win surrendering a run on six hits and three walks. Charleston Robby Milner (4-3) suffered the loss. Game two of the series is Saturday at 7:05.
