FURMAN BASEBALL DEFEATS UNC ASHEVILLE
GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Justin Maderer and Cole Hubka combined for a pair of home
runs and six RBI to lead Furman to a 7-4 win over UNC Asheville Tuesday afternoon
at Furman Stadium.
After UNC Ashville grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning, Furman answered
with a four-run second highlighted by Madereršs three-run home run to center
field off Bulldog starter Troy Miller.
UNC Asheville trimmed Furmanšs advantage to 6-3 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third courtesy of four walks, but the Paladins later answered with an RBI single by Hubka in the eighth to make it 7-3.
Four Furman pitchers combined to limit UNC Asheville to seven hits. Tommy John
(1-0) earned the win, and Danny Rueckel pitched the final three innings to earn
the save.
With this victory, Furmanšs seveth in its last eigth games, the Paladins improve
to 20-22 on the season. UNC Asheville drops to 21-22.
Furman returns to action on Friday travelling to UNC Greensboro for a weekend Southern conference series.
