FURMAN SHUTS OUT UNC ASHEVILLE 5-0


GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Rusty Putnam pitched eight innings of no-hit ball and stranded two runners in the ninth to pace Furman to a 5-0 win over UNC Asheville Wednesday afternoon.

Putnam (2-1) surrendered a leadoff single to the Bulldogs¹ Todd Interdonato and a walk in the ninth before rallying to record three consecutive outs to post the victory.

Furman, 3-5, took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a RBI single by James Bright off Bulldog starter Matt Corrado (0-1). The Paladins added another run in the fourth and two in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead. Furman closed out its scoring in the seventh when Danny Rueckel advanced home on a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded.

Furman returns to action next Wednesday when the Paladins take on Coastal Carolina in Conway, S.C. in a 3:00 game.
