HIGH POINT WINS THIRD STRAIGHT, BEATS FURMAN 14-8

On a beautiful sunny day at Alumni Field the High Point Panthers played and won an impressive game over Furman University 14-8. The Panthers at the plate exploded for 18 hits.

Designated hitter Buck Hamrick hit 4-for-4, with 3 RBI's and 3 runs scored. Center fielder John Cavanaugh went 3-for-5, drove in 6 RBI's and scored 3 runs including the grand-slam home run that put him at 10 for the year . Right fielder Buddy Webb hit a triple and a home run to end his day at 2-for-3 at the plate, bringing his total to 9 home runs. Freshman pitcher Kevin Burch runs his record (2-3) for the win. Burch pitched a solid four innings after comming in after pitcher Chris Chandler pitched a solid first inning.

Furman University (13-21-1) hit well at the plate, but the pitching let them down giving up 18 hits. Second baseman Clint Hill went 2-for-56 with 2 RBI's and 1 run scored. Furman starter Rusty Putnam pitched five innings giving up 9 hits, 6 earned runs for the loss.
