THREE-RUN NINTH INNING LIFTS
FURMAN TO 6-5 WIN OVER GEORGIA STATE
GREENVILLE, SC-- Will Daugs¹ two-run double with one out in the bottom of
the ninth inning capped a three-run rally and lifted Furman to a 6-5 win over
visiting Georgia State Wednesday afternoon.
Daugs¹ game-winning hit off Panther reliever Kevin Hopper (0-2) scored Jordan
Riley, who had reached base after being hit by a pitch, and Danny Rueckel, who
earlier had doubled in Chris Valdes to make it a 5-4 game.
Trailing 5-0 after seven innings, Furman scored three runs in the eighth inning
to cut the Panther lead to 5-3 following a single by Daugs and a two-run double
by Adam Etherington off Georgia State reliever Gabe Council.
Rob Purvis (1-0), who pitched a scoreless ninth, earned the win for Furman
(8-16-1), which collected 12 hits, including four by shortstop Danny Rueckel.
Winners of three of its past four games, Furman returns to action this weekend
when it takes on Western Carolina in Cullowhee, N.C., in a three-game Southern
Conference series beginning with a double header at noon on Saturday.
