FURMAN BASEBALL DOWNS GEORGIA SOUTHERN 5-3

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furmanıs Chris Valdes went 2-for-4 and batted in two Paladin runs to lead Furman to a 5-3 win over the Georgia Southern Eagles (25-18, 16-5 SoCon) Sunday afternoon at Furman Baseball Stadium.

Furman (19-22-1, 12-7-1 SoCon) took an early 2-0 lead in the first after driving in runs on Valdesı triple and Ryan Richettiıs single. The Eagles answered in the top of the second by scoring two runs off of Dustin Langleyıs RBI single and Ryan Flemmingıs sacrifice fly. Furmanıs Cole Hubka stole home in the fourth to lift the Paladins to a 3-2 lead. Georgia Southernıs Matt Easterday doubled and later scored to tied the game at 3-3. Furman posted two additional runs in the fifth when Valdes hit a RBI single and later scored on a pass ball.

Furmanıs Corey Etheridge (5-5) went 5 and a third innings to earn the win, and Paladin Rob Purvis earned his seventh save of the season. Georgia Southernıs Brett Lewis (6-5) took the loss.

Furman returns to action on Tuesday when the Paladins take on the UNC Asheville Bulldogs in a 2:00 p.m. contest at Greenwood Field.
