FURMAN LOSES 11-4 TO
EASTERN KENTUCKY
GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman baseball (4-9) was defeated 11-4 by Eastern Kentucky
(2-4) on Sunday. Originally scheduled for noon, the start time was delayed until
3:00 pm due to rain.
Eastern Kentucky took an early two run lead as seniors Lee Chapman and Adam
Basil both posted RBI singles in the first inning. The Paladins answered in
the bottom of the inning as freshman Clint Hill scored on a fielderšs choice.
Scoring five runs on five hits in the thrird, the Colonels increased their lead
to 7-1. Furman again answered in the bottom of the inning scoring two aditional
runs on a two singles and a Colonel error. Paladin pitchers Alex Vogel and Mike
Feldhaus gave up four more runs on six hits in the fourth and fifth innings
to give Eastern Kentucky an 11-3 advantage. In the bottom of the ninth, Furman
attempted a comeback, but only produced one run as freshman Richie Dean reached
on a double and scored on an RBI single by Tommy John.
Colonel Corey Eagle (1-1) posted the win, and Furmanšs Rusty Putnam suffered the loss (2-2). The Paladins returns to action on Saturday at noon as they host Davidson in their first Southern Conference doubleheader of the season.
