FURMAN BASEBALL SPLITS
DOUBLEHEADER WITH DAVIDSON
GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman baseball (5-11,1-2) defeated Davidson 3-1 in game
one of Sundayšs doubleheader before falling 4-1 in game two.
In game one, Furman took an early 1-0 lead as freshman Clint Hill reached
on a lead-off single and later scored on sophomore Ryan Presnellšs RBI single.
A solo home run by Brian Beaumier in the second increased the Paladins lead
to 2-0. The Paladins scored an additional run in the bottom of the sixth as
junior Adam Etherington scored on Hillšs RBI double. Wildcat James Marinošs
homer in the seventh inning producing Davidsonšs only run for a 3-1 final.
Davidson took a commanding 4-0 lead to start game two. The Wildcats scored
four runs off of three hits and two Paladin errors in the third inning. In the
bottom of the fifth, Furmanšs pinch runner Richie Dean scored on Hillšs sacrifice
fly for the Paladins only run of the game.
Furmanšs Corey Etheridge earned the win in game one, while Wildcat Jamie McDonald suffered the loss. In game two, Davidsonšs Wes Self was the winning pitcher, and Paladin Toby David took the loss. The Paladins will travel to Columbia to face South Carolina in a 7:00 p.m. game on Wednesday, March 8 and will host College of Charleston in a conference series starting Friday, March 10 at 3:00 p.m.
