FURMAN BASEBALL FALLS 10-6 TO CHARLESTON SOUTHERN

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Charleston Southern Buccaneers produced seven runs in the top of the ninth to clinch a 10-6 win over the Furman Paladins (13-19-1) Friday afternoon at Furman Baseball Stadium.

Charleston Southern (18-20) took an early second inning 2-0 lead after David Martindale advanced home on a double play with bases loaded and Brandon Massey scored on a wild pitch. Furmanıs Chris Valdes homered in the fourth to slice the Buccaneersı lead to 2-1. The Paladins produced an additional run in the sixth, tying the game at 2-2. The Buccaneers answered in top of the seventh when Martindale scored on a double play with the bases loaded and took a 3-2 lead.

The Paladins tallied two hits and drew four walks to take a 6-3 lead in the eighth. The Buccaneers clinched the 10-6 win after producing seven runs on four hits.

Charleston Southernıs Matt Coenen (5-2) pitched nine complete innings and allowed eight hits and three earned runs to post the win. Furmanıs Rob Purvis (2-1) took the loss.

Furman returns to action on Saturday afternoon when hosting Belmont in a 1:00 p.m. contest at Furman Baseball Stadium.
