FURMAN BASEBALL DEFEATS CHARLESTON SOUTHERN 6-5

Furmanšs Brandon Barrett went 2-for-4 on Wednesday afternoon and drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eigth inning to lift the Paladins to a 6-5 win over Charleston Southern (19-23-1).

Todayšs win snapped Furmanšs five game losing streak that started against Appalachian State on April 2. Charleston Southernšs Andrian Vanderburg produced no hits on the day, breaking his 26 game hitting streak.

Furman (14-22-1) took an early 1-0 lead in the first as Chris Valdes reached on an error and later scored on Ryan Richettišs double. The Paladins increased their lead to 3-0 in the second scoring two runs on a Buccaneer error. In the fourth, Charleston Southern scored one run on Jason Corrigalešs solo home run. Furman maintained their three-run lead as Barrett reached on a single and was later walk in by Buccaneer pitching.

Charleston Southern scored three additional runs in the top of the fifth to tie the game at 4-4. Both teams posted one run on two singles in the seventh inning. Furman scored the go ahead run in the eighth and put out three straight Buccaneer batters in the top of the ninth for the win. Furmanšs Danny Rueckel (1-1) earned the win, while Charleston Southernšs Chad Humbert sufferred the loss.
