FURMAN BASEBALL TIES WITH COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman fell 9-7 to the College of Charleston on Sunday in the completion of game two that was delayed due to rain on Saturday. Furman tied College of Charleston 7-7 in the third game of the series when the game was called due to darkness after eleven innings.

Furman resumed game two with two outs and a runner on second base, but failed to score as freshman Clint Hill flied out to end the inning on Sunday. In the bottom of the seventh, Furman took a 3-1 lead on freshman Cole Hubkaıs RBI single and a walk. The Cougars regained the lead in the eighth scoring three runs on three hits, highlighted by Tom Perrinıs double. The College of Charleston continued their assult in the ninth as Josh Edgeworth hit a grand slam to give the Cougars a 9-3 advantage. A Paladin comeback in the bottom of the inning produced four runs on four hits, including a two run single by Chris Valdes, but could no top the College of Charlestonıs lead. Cougar Aaron Black (3-1) earned the 9-7 victory, while Paladin Danny Rueckel (0-1) took the loss.

In game two, the Couagrs took an early 2-0 lead producing two runs on a hit by pitch and a passed ball. Furman answered with one run in the bottom of the inning as Hill reached on a double and later scored on Ryan Presnellıs sacrifice fly. Three additonal runs in the top of the second inning on Edgeworthıs two run double and a ground out gave College of Charleston a 5-1 lead. Two runs on two doubles and single in the bottom of the inning brought Furman within two. Furmanıs Tommy John led off the fourth inning with a triple and later scored on an error. The Paladins produced an additional run in the fifth on Presnellıs RBI single to tied the game a 5-5. The Cougars edged the Paladins in the seventh after drawing a walkwith the bases loaded.The Paladins posted another run on Presnellıs sac fly to tie the game at 6-6 in the bottom of the eighth. The Cougars answered in the top of the ninth, producing one run on Adam Smithıs RBI single and taking 7-6 lead. Furman scored in the bottom of the ninth on an error and tied the game at 7-7.
