FURMAN BASEBALL FALLS 9-2 to COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman baseball (5-13,1-3 SoCon) lost 9-2 in the conference series opener against the College of Charleston (9-9, 4-0 SoCon) on Friday afternoon.

The Cougars took a one run lead in the first as senior Karl Morris scored on a Paladin error. Furman answered in the bottom of the second with four hits, highlighted by sophomore Jeff Adkisson¹s double, to take a 2-1 lead. In the top of the fouth, a two-run homer by sophomore Rene Perez gave the Courgars a 3-2 lead. Junior Ronny MarmolŒs RBI single in the fourth and Morris¹s sacrifice fly in the sixth gave the College of Charleston two additional runs. The Cougars scored four runs in the ninth inning on three hits including a triple by Marmol for a 9-2 final.

Furman¹s Corey Etheridge (2-4) suffered the loss, while Cougar Lucas Hocker (1-3) earned the win. The Paladins will face the College of Charleston again on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. for game two of the series.
