FURMAN BASEBALL DEFEATS THE CITADEL, 10-7

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman Baseball batters combined for nine runs on eight hits in the first inning to start Sundayıs 10-7 victory over The Citadel (33-18,20-7 SoCon).

The Paladins scored four runs in the first on four consectutive RBI singles. A James Bright double scored two additional runs for Furman (22-24-1, 14-11-1 SoCon). Freshman Clint Hill led the team offensively in the first posting both a single and a two-run homer.

The Citadel responded with two runs in the top of the second inning on a single by Michael Harris. Furman scored in the bottom of the inning as Ryan Presnell reached on an error and scored on Cole Hubkaıs single.

In the seventh, a three-run double by Harris cut Furmanıs lead in half. Tavy Smalls continued the assault with a two-run double later in the inning and trimmed the Paladins lead to three.

The Bulldogs loaded the bases in the eighth and advanced runners to second and third in the ninth, but left five runners stranded for a 10-7 final.

Furmanıs Toby David (3-4) pitched six and a third innings to earn the win. The Citadelıs Kyle Bunn (5-6) suffered the loss.

Furman Baseball will face High Point in the final home game of the 2000 season on Wednesday. Seniors will be recognized prior to the 3:00 p.m. start.
